Tissue senescence is a state of irreversible cell cycle arrest that plays a significant role in aging and various pathological processes. In the kidney, senescence is closely associated with Chronic Kidney Diseases such as diabetic nephropathy, interstitial nephritis, and glomerulonephritis. Renal injuries caused by infections, inflammation, or ischemia-reperfusion often result in cellular damage and the induction of senescence pathways. These senescent cells secrete a pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic cocktail of molecules, inducing phenotypic changes in surrounding cells.

NEPHRIX Biosolutions has developed a robust in vitro senescence assay platform using human primary cells from various tissue origins (renal, lung, cardiac, and skin). This platform is designed to evaluate senescence markers such as p21Cip1 and SASP-cytokines expression, SA-β-Galactosidase staining under controled senescence-inducing conditions.
In addition to biomarkers evaluation, our assays incorporate advanced functional readouts, such as Mitochondrial respiration activity, providing a comprehensive toolkit to uncover the mechanisms driving cellular senescence and to identify potential anti-senescent therapies aimed at mitigating aging and chronic disease progression.
